De imperio

An animated short film by Alessandro Novelli.

During a peaceful night, a group of fugitives tries to find its way to the centre of the building, where the entire resistance is gathering. Evading the surveillance they go through the rooms of the Giants and witness their macabre routines.

“De Imperio” , produced by BAP Animation Studios (PT) and Co-produced by Studio Kimchi (ES) premiered at the 76 Locarno Film Festival, Pardi di Domani Official short competition in August 2023.

It is the last chapter of a trilogy on human conditions entitled “Deconstruction” and it was created with a blend of traditional and digital 2D, 3D and acrylic painting.

During my curricular internship at BAP Animation Studios, in 2022, I was proudly part of the hand-painted animation team of this short film, responsible for creating and shooting the color animation sequence, which has around 500 unique frames. This team effort required each frame to be painted with precision and care, where the process of having multiple layers to hand-paint had to be taken into account for the work to flow smoothly.
